The Centre for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Catholic University of Portugal, Braga, invites to participate in the Open Class: Hate speech online and journalistic practices: a proposal for reflection.
The session will take place in a ZOOM room, on June 14, 2021, at 6pm.
The invited speaker will be Dr. Marisa Torres da Silva, Assistant Professor at the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Hate speech online is a growing problem in contemporary societies, and not only social networks, but also the media itself, are important vehicles for its circulation and dissemination. Seeking to conceptually map the notion of hate speech, while also looking at its regulation in today's online environment, we will examine the concrete challenges to the social and moral responsibility of the news media in combating this phenomenon.
