Solemn Session of the National Day of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa 2025

‘Knowledge as hope’ will be the motto of the solemn session of the National Day of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa 2025, which will take place on 7 February at 4pm in the Cardinal Medeiros Auditorium of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon.
The ceremony will be presided over by the Chancellor of the Universidade Católica, D. Rui Valério, who will begin the session, followed by a speech by the President, Isabel Capeloa Gil.
During the ceremony, the degrees of Doctor Honoris Causa will be awarded to Ilídio da Costa Leite de Pinho and Vasco Maria Guimarães José de Mello. There will also be the imposition of insignia and the awarding of doctoral letters to the new doctors of the Universidade Católica.
On this occasion, Helena Carmo will make history by becoming the first deaf person to obtain a doctorate from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, a significant milestone for academic inclusion and the recognition of Sign Language as an object of high-value scientific study.
Silver and gold medals will also be awarded to University employees who have completed 25 and 40 years of service, in recognition of their dedication.
The ceremony will also feature a speech by the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, and will be closed by Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça.
After the ceremony, which will include the participation of the UCP choir, there will be a port of honour.
On 2 February, the National Day of the Universidade Católica, a Holy Mass was celebrated in the Igreja de Santa Isabel.
