"ADN Jurista" Award - Cavaleiro & Associados encourages undergraduate research in Law

The Faculty of Law awarded the first edition of the "ADN Jurista" Award – Cavaleiro & Associados, based on an innovative initiative between this Program and the Law Office, to promote legal research among the program's best students. In the end, of the six selected in February this year, three were rewarded with cash prizes.

Marking a new era in research stimulation on undergraduates, Manuel Fontaine Campos, director of the Faculty, thanked Sociedade Cavaleiro & Associados for the creation and support of this innovative award: “This award has the effect of producing research, and the interesting thing is that it is at the time of graduation where students practically do not have the opportunity to research in such a professional way”.

João Quintela Cavaleiro, representing the Sociedade, praised the student's initiative and enthusiasm during the competition, citing Voltaire “If you do not accept the changes of your time, you are probably not making the most of it”, he declared, praising the excellence of the School, its students, and those who have been here.

The first award was granted to Tomás Carvalho Guerra, with the article “Algorithmic Agreements: The Digital Eye Scenario and a Redefinition of the Frontiers of Competition Law”. Inês Ribeiro took the second-place home, with the work “Disinheritance in the Context of Succession and its Possible Expansion”, and third place was given to Mafalda Cruz, author of the article “Challenges and Opportunities of the New Portuguese Voluntary Carbon Market”. The winner gave a brief presentation of his article, analysing the use of algorithms in current markets, highlighting the challenges they represent for Competition Law and the need to redefine laws in this area.

The "ADN Jurista" – Cavaleiro & Associados award consolidates the partnership between the Faculty of Law and Cavaleiro & Associados, an innovative School of Law program that aims to help students develop differentiating qualities such as critical reflection, creativity, autonomy, and communication with clients, colleagues, and the general public, always with a strong sense of ethics.
