Católica joins Choices Programme Consortium
Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) has joined Santa Rafaela Maria Foundation as part of the consortium promoting the Tasse-e8g project, under the Choices Program (Programa Escolhas). This program aims to combat discrimination, strengthen social cohesion and promote equal opportunities. Integrated in the High Commission for Migrations (ACM), its mission is to promote the social inclusion of children and young people from contexts of socio-economic vulnerability.
The Santa Rafaela Maria Foundation assumes the social projects that the Congregation of the Slaves of the Sacred Heart of Jesus currently develops - some since 1992 - at the Quinta da Fonte da Prata neighbourhood - Alhos Vedros, namely in the following areas
- Promoting school inclusion of children and young people between the ages of 7 and 18;
- Promote the insertion in active life of young people between 16 and 24 years old;
- Promote entrepreneurship and active participation in young people between 16 and 24 years old and their parents.
The Tasse-e8g Project, which exists since 2004, has developed its work in the neighbourhood of Quinta da Fonte da Prata, focusing on improving the school inclusion of children and young people and increasing the skills and opportunities of the population of the community where it is located.
Within the scope of this collaboration, the UCP provides volunteers to reinforce the development of the activities "Informatics Ateliers" and "Informatics Projects". The first Excel course, which started this week, is being coordinated by Dr. Rosário Lucas and Carlos Rondão from the Católica-Lisbon School of Business & Economics (CLSBE), who are carefully monitoring the programme. Aimed at parents of Tasse-e8g participants, the course is being redesigned, adapted and taught by our final-year Economics students at CLSBE, Pedro Zambujo and Master in Economics at CLSBE, Catarina Gaspar.
Maria José Gonçalves, aci, from Santa Rafaela Maria Foundation, thanked UCP for the collaboration in the beginning of the first course with these words "With the certainty that everything we do in this area, will help our families, young people and children, with tools that prepare us for our world, where computer skills are so necessary".
UCP, committed to the sustainable development of its community, contributes with this project to Sustainable Development Goals #4 and #17 of the 2030 Agenda.
