Célia Manaia is one of the world's most cited researchers for the fourth year running
One of the world's most cited scientists for the fourth year running is Célia Manaia, a researcher at the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
"It's nice to know that our work is appreciated and useful to our peers," she says, adding "it's one of those times when you realise that doing research is working in a huge, global community, and that's very interesting!"
Célia Manaia leaves a message of advice for researchers who are starting or have recently started their careers: "never work for rankings or metrics, but always give your best, in honesty, creativity and integrity, and fall in love with what you do every day, from the simplest to the most sophisticated."
Dedicating her research work to the area of microbiology, particularly in the field of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, Célia Manaia sees this distinction as "a recognition, which I also see as an incentive."
The "Highly Cited Researchers 2023" list, drawn up by Clarivate Analytics, a US company specialising in scientific information management, identifies the 7,125 researchers worldwide who have shown significant influence in their area of research or scientific areas, which corresponds to 1% of all scientists in the world. In Portugal, Célia Manaia is one of the 19 Portuguese scientists on the list. More information is available here.
The methodology that determines the "who's who" of influential researchers is based on data and analyses carried out by bibliometric experts and data scientists at Clarivate's Institute for Scientific Information™.
Researcher Célia Manaia is also part of the "World's Top 2% Scientists 2023" ranking, coordinated by Stanford University.
