Diversity, empowerment and education: CITAR project tests film literacy methodology in schools
More than 50 teachers and close to 1000 students were involved in the pilot implementation of the INSERT project, of the Centre for Research in Science and Technology of the Arts (CITAR), of the School of Arts (EA), which aims to educate and include through the promotion of an artistic language around Cinema, reflected in the methodology developed that includes more than 20 resources of free access.
Originating from five school clusters, the teachers and students who tested this methodology produced short films and participated in cinema sessions based on the resources offered by the project. They showed high levels of motivation and enthusiasm, and the effectiveness of the materials provided was recognised.
Coordinated by Pedro Alves, lecturer at the School of Arts and researcher at CITAR, the project aimed to develop a theoretical-practical methodology of film literacy and film production, capable of combating and overcoming the geographical, cultural or social barriers that so many regions still face today.
The aim is to bring more schools, teachers and students the opportunity to contact cinema, responding to the contemporary need for flexibility and inclusion in schools. Because cinema, by representing multiple realities, becomes "a natural field for diversity, empowerment and education."
