School of Nursing in Porto collaborates in vaccination against COVID-19

On February 20, 2021, a group of 20 students from the School of Nursing (Porto) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, with five faculty members, voluntarily collaborated with the Matosinhos Local Health Unit, in the vaccination process of 1023 old people in the municipality.

The vaccination process took place in the external consultations of the Pedro Hispano Hospital. The students and faculty members participated in the admission of users, evaluating the safety criteria for vaccination proposed by the Portuguese Directorate-General of Health, informing users about vaccines and monitoring users in the recovery phase, in conjunction with the nurses of the institution.

Thus, it was possible to enhance in the students the development of communication skills in the context of pandemic care, as well as understanding the processes of organizing a mass vaccination plan, with all its domains (information, circuit management and user safety). The Nursing School thus once again fulfills its mission of social responsibility, creating learning opportunities at the service of communities.
