Seminar “The Sea as Potential and Representation: Unlocking the Power of the Oceans”

The Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in collaboration with Sophia University (Tokyo, Japan), is organising the seminar ‘The Sea as Potential and Representation: Unlocking the Power of the Oceans’, which will take place on June 18th at 2pm in the Portugal Pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Japan.

The event will be held in conjunction with the exhibition ‘Poetry as an Echological Survival’, by the artist Nuno da Luz.

The seminar will explore the multifaceted significance of the oceans from both practical and symbolic perspectives. Scholars and experts will engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue, addressing the sea as a source of economic potential, environmental sustainability and technological innovation, while also examining the social impact of cultural, artistic and symbolic representations.

By fostering a deeper understanding of the ocean's power and potential, the seminar seeks to inspire global action toward preserving and responsibly utilizing marine resources, aligning with broader goals of sustainability and human advancement.
