2nd Meeting "Convents and Monasteries of Portugal: a heritage to be unveiled"
Tuesday, June 01, 2021 - 10:00 - Tuesday, June 01, 2021 - 17:30
Online
The Project "Convents and Monasteries of Portugal (1096-1910): spatialities and temporalities" is currently underway within the UCP-CEHR and with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Inspired by other initiatives underway in Europe, the CONVEMOS Project aims to stimulate and relaunch research on the religious orders and congregations that existed in Portugal, identifying the respective institutions in space and time, and highlighting the material and immaterial heritage they bequeathed to us, in some cases still existing, in others only in vestiges.
The use of new technological means in the Humanities is a reality that has been consolidating and the project is part of the Digital Humanities movement, proposing in theory and in practice, through a relational database, to bring knowledge about convents and monasteries of Portugal to an interested public, from academics to tourists.
In this phase of the Project, the database is being finalized in its potentialities, with data about the convents of the Orders of Preachers and the Cartuxa. The objective of this 2nd Meeting is to present the results of the Project and to contribute to the debate on the legacy and heritage of regular religious institutions. Thus, national and international experts will participate, some of whom will present other similar projects at national and European scale, and the CONVEMOS database will be presented by members of the team.
