On December 10, 2020, in Maputo, at 2:30 p.m. (12:30 local time), the book "Commentary on the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights and Additional Protocol", organized by the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs of the Republic of Mozambique, will be launched. The book is coordinated by Professor Paulo Pinto de Albuquerque, professor at the Faculdade de Direito of Universidade Católica Portuguesa and former Judge of the European Court of Human Rights, and has the collaboration of 66 authors from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe.
The present Commentary aims at three fundamental objectives. The first is to provide civic service to all citizens of the PALOP, bringing together the best jurists from the PALOP legal area. The second objective is to disseminate knowledge of international law, human and peoples' rights, and constitutional law in the PALOP, disseminating the jurisprudence of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights and the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, as well as the jurisprudence of the Supreme Courts and Constitutional Courts of the PALOP on fundamental rights, freedoms and guarantees. Finally, the third objective of this Commentary is to strengthen the social and legal role of the Judiciary, the Advocacy and the Universities played in the protection of human and peoples' rights, strengthening channels of communication and promoting synergies between Governments, the Courts, the Attorneys General, the Bar Associations and the Universities of the PALOP.
The launch counts with the remote intervention (recording) of His Excellency the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and with the remote participation of the coordinator of the edition, Professor Paulo Pinto de Albuquerque.
