Dean of the Escola das Artes is a member of the jury of the Portuguese official representation at the 2022 Venice Art Biennale

Nuno Crespo, dean of the Escola das Artes at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto, is a member of the committee to assess applications for the limited competition for choosing the curatorial and exhibition project for the representation of Portugal at the 59th Venice Art Biennale, which will take place in 2022. The curators invited to present an application are Bruno Leitão, Filipa Oliveira, Paula Nascimento, Sara Antónia Matos and the duo consisting of João Mourão and Luís Silva.

According to the DGArtes: "The projects must relate to the theme "The Milk of Dreams/Il latte dei sogni", proposed by the general curator of the Bienal, Cecilia Alemani, whose inspiration came from the book with the same name , "The Milk of Dreams", by surrealist artist Leonora Carrington. Candidate projects should also take into account objectives such as boosting the internationalization of Portuguese arts and culture through cooperation with other countries; valuing the educational dimension and raising awareness of culture through good public mediation practices; environmental sustainability and the implementation of good ecological practices; the promotion of artistic research and experimentation as innovative practices of development and knowledge; the promotion of physical, social and intellectual accessibility of all professionals involved in artistic projects and their respective audiences.”

In addition to Nuno Crespo, dean of the Escola das Artes, the candidate appraisal committee is made up of Sofia Isidoro, from the Directorate-General for the Arts (DGArtes), Ana Cristina Cachola, guest professor at the Faculdade de Ciências Humanas of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and researcher at the Center for Communication and Culture Studies, and specialist Giulia Lamoni, as permanent members, and by Catarina Rosendo and Constanza Ronchetti, as alternates.

The Official Portuguese Representation at the 59th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia 2022 will take place between April 23 and November 27, 2022. In 2022, Portugal will occupy the Palazzo Franchetti in Venice, with an exhibition surface of 500 meters square. Applications close on 24 September.
