Executive programme in Management and Museology: "Students can play a key role in the management of Portuguese heritage"
"This is a most pertinent initiative in our country's heritage management and museology sector". These were the words of the Secretary of State for Culture, at the opening session of the Executive Programme in Management and Museology, which took place on April 21, at the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics.
"Aware of the current needs we face in terms of human resources qualification in this area, expectations couldn't be higher for this programme", said Isabel Cordeiro at the opening ceremony of the new course, coordinated by professors Paulo Campos Pinto and Ricardo Reis.
Stating her satisfaction with the creation of the executive programme, in partnership with the Portuguese Museum Association (APOM), the Secretary of State also stressed her belief in "the role that these students can play in modernising the management of Portugal's very rich heritage, namely the museums."
The President of APOM, João Neto, wanted to "pay tribute" to the President of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Isabel Capeloa Gil, because "she has always understood and given the greatest help so that the idea could be brought to life".
The course, which has now begun, focuses on the organisation, governance and management of museological heritage, and aims to respond to the demands for professionals in the museology sector and for a high qualification for the direction, coordination and management of museological equipment and museographic projects.
It distinguishes itself by offering specialised and interdisciplinary training, crossing the fields of museology, management and communication. It also provides trainees with adequate knowledge to perform museological functions and the necessary skills to create and lead transformation strategies in the sector.
The study programme includes the analysis of museological and heritage policies, the discussion of ethical, legal and administrative aspects and reflection on current issues such as security, the use of technology and artificial intelligence.
