FFCS Student Launches Love and Poetry Book
Marilina Tavares (Mary Tavares), international student of Faculdade de Filosofia e Ciências Sociais (FFCS) at Braga Regional Center of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, launched a poetry book entitled "Amar e Poesia" (Loving and Poetry). The Cape Verdean from the island of São Vicente, attended the Bachelor's and Master's degree course in Digital Communication at the FFCS.
Marilina said that since she was a child she always loved to read and write short stories and shared them with her classmates, her teacher, and her mother. As a teenager, the author developed a passion for poetry, a passion she shared only with her closest friends.
When she started her undergraduate studies in Portugal, the FFCS student left poetry in the background to focus on higher education, but revealed that whenever she could do some academic work where she was allowed to use her creativity for writing, she grabbed the opportunity.
During the pandemic, Marilina decided to revisit her passion and, in collaboration with Emeline David, another Cape Verdean author, launched Emary, a free poetry ebook, which came with several videos reciting the poems developed in it. Having had an extremely positive response, the Master's student in Digital Communication started to develop the book "Amar e Poesia". On September 28, 2020, the author sent the manuscript to the publisher Chiado Books. The FFCS student says that a week after the submission she was informed that her work was in line with the publisher's catalog and that they would be happy to publish it. According to the author, the collaboration was quick and effective.
On January 27, 2021, Mary Tavares saw her dream come true when she held in her hands the copies of her new book. The author uses her creativity and the tools she developed in her master's degree to promote her book on Instagram and Facebook.
