Like mother, like son: Ana Colaço and Guilherme chose the same course at Católica
Ana Colaço, alumna of Universidade Católica and presenter at RFM is the mother. Guilherme Silva Dias, the son, is a student of Communication and Cultural Sciences at the Faculty of Human Sciences (FCH), of UCP. To celebrate Mother's Day, celebrated this year on May 7th, we decided to bring them together to listen to their stories.
We begin with Ana Colaço and her time at the University which, 26 years later, welcomes her son, a third-year student on the course that her mother inaugurated in 1991. When the time came to choose a Bachelor's degree, the "voice" of the Pacific Ocean had no doubts. "It could only be Católica, because it had a course that responded exactly to what I was looking for. Where theory and practice fitted together perfectly and where I could learn to do Radio."
From that time, she recalls "the enthusiasm of students and teachers, where everything was new. Where freedom was greater than in other, older courses, but which also brought great responsibility."
She assures that she made "friends for life, the fruit of a very close and challenging experience", which opened doors and prepared them for the world that awaited them outside the university walls.
It was also without hesitation that Guilherme applied to Católica. The decision, guarantees the student, was taken since the 6th grade, when he asked his mother where he had done his degree.
"I knew I wanted to do a course linked to Social Communication, because I grew up in this environment and the creative part has always fascinated me", says the student, adding that he started very young "recording commercials and becoming familiar with microphones and headphones". About his mother he confesses feeling "enormous pride for the great professional that she is. For her enviable career, but above all for her capacity to work hard, and to make it look easy. An inspiration, an example to follow and a foundation for the rest of her life."
Attentive to her son's words, Ana Colaço cannot help but shed a tear: " I have never heard him talk like this. I was not expecting this, but I am very grateful. What I want is for him to do what he likes, to finish the course and to be very happy". One thing is certain. Besides the complicity and the dreams they share, mother and son will always have in common, the same Alma Mater.
