Mother's Day: A Legacy of Success at Universidade Católica Portuguesa
On all the campi of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, from Lisbon through Porto and Braga to Viseu, we find inspiring stories of mothers and sons who share not only family ties, but also a connection with our institution.
Beginning in the capital and headquarters of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Lisbon, Ana Colaço and her son, Guilherme Dias Silva, both followed in the same footsteps at UCP, studying Social and Cultural Communication Studies.
At UCP's Porto Campus, Francisco and Carolina also followed in their mother's footsteps, choosing a double degree in Law and Management, and a Master's in Tax Law. Their mother, Sara Carneiro Pacheco, now Executive Coordinator of the Executive MBA at Católica Porto Business School (CPBS), is an alumna of the Management Degree.
Also at the Porto Regional Centre, both the mother, Constança Festas, who has a PhD in Nursing from UCP and is currently a professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing, and the daughter, Constança Barbosa, who has a degree and a master's in Management from the same institution and is currently working at the Unit for the Integral Development of the Person (UDIP), honour the educational legacy of Católica.
On this campus we find another inspiring example of education as a family bond. Manuela Sousa, who graduated in Law from the Universidade Católica do Porto, paved the way for her daughter, Margarida Sousa, who is now following her dream at the same institution, but where she has chosen to study Nursing.
Also in Invicta, the Machado family demonstrates how education becomes a bond between generations Joana César Machado, an alumna of the first edition of the Master's in Management, and current lecturer at CPBS, now sees her son, Miguel, about to complete a degree in Management.
At the Braga Regional Centre, Ana Filipa Capela is studying for a Master's Degree in Clinical and Health Psychology, choosing the same faculty where her mother, Ana Maria Capela, studied Humanities.
Finally, on the Viseu campus, Beatriz Miguel Ferreira is studying Dental Medicine at the same university where her mother, Sónia Miguel Ferreira, graduated in Maths.
All these stories have in common the legacy of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where different eras and courses come together under the common goal of happiness and success, as Ana Filipa emphasises: "Different times, different courses, but with common goals: happiness and success!"
On Mother's Day, we honour not only mothers, but also all those who, with their support and example, influence the next generations of leaders, professionals and committed citizens.
