The President of the Republic of Portugal awards Universidade Católica Portuguesa

At the closing ceremony of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, honoured this institution with the title of Honorary Member of the Order of Public Education, in recognition of “five decades of devoted service to education and to culture.”

During his concluding remarks at the end of the “Global Futures” Great Conferences Cycle, and in the presence of the Rector, Isabel Capeloa Gil, and the Chancellor, Manuel Clemente, the President of the Republic declared: “Your Excellencies, it is never too late to fulfil a duty of conscience. In this case, a duty of national conscience”.

“This is, therefore, the moment to formally recognise the contribution of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa to Portugal, which is to say, to the Portuguese: five decades of devoted service to education and to culture, of a remarkable sense of community mission and of a single-minded concern for the common good.”
