Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Universidad Católica Boliviana strengthen cooperation ties

Isabel Capeloa Gil, President of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) and Fr José Fuentes Cano, National Rector of the Universidad Católica Boliviana (UCB), signed a cooperation agreement between the two universities, on February 8th, in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

Aimed at strengthening the co-operation between the two universities, already present within the framework of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC), the agreement provides for the promotion of research activities and projects, academic publications, seminars, workshops and short courses. The protocol also foresees the exchange of students, teachers and researchers.

During her visit to the partner university, the President of FIUC and UCP took part as a guest speaker in the symposium " Challenges that reality poses to a Catholic University in the 21st Century", which marked the inauguration ceremony of the Bolivian university's new building on campus.

Narciso Velázquez Ferreira, Rector of the Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción-Paraguay, Fr Andrés Aguirre S.J., Rector of the Universidad Católica de Córdoba, Fernando Felipe Sánchez Campos, Rector of the Universidad Católica de Costa Rica and Vice-President of the FIUC, and Rodolfo Gallo Cornejo, Rector of the Universidad Católica de Salta and President of the Organisation of Catholic Universities in Latin America and the Caribbean, also took part in this colloquium.

This meeting and the agreement signed meant a strengthening of international co-operation in the Network of Catholic Universities. Founded in 1963, the Universidad Católica Boliviana, San Pablo, is the oldest non-state university in the country and a member of the FIUC.

During her visit to Bolivia, the President of UCP also visited the missions of San Javier y Concepción, known as Chiquitanas.
