António Gonçalves Rodrigues Fund

The António Gonçalves Rodrigues Fund is a small section of António Gonçalves Rodrigues' personal archive, which he donated to the João Paulo II University Library of Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 2023.

António Augusto Gonçalves Rodrigues was born in Bragança on January 22, 1906. With roots in Paçó de Rio Frio, where some of his ancestors came from, he graduated in Germanic Philology from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Coimbra in 1929. Joining the Monarchist Cause from a young age, he accepted political posts: National Commissioner of Portuguese Youth (1951-1956), Member of Parliament and Vice-President of the National Assembly (1961-1965). He founded the Instituto Superior de Línguas e Administração in Lisbon in 1962, where he remained as professor, director and administrator until 1998. He died on July 28, 1999.

The documents in this collection relate to the publication of A Tradução em Portugal. Three documents stand out, namely the original bibliographic collection for the publication of the sixth volume of A Tradução em Portugal (1931-1950), consisting of copies of handwritten records and data processing, a memorandum of meetings relating to the publication of the fifth and sixth volumes of A Tradução em Portugal and some bibliographic records of the survey carried out for works translated between 1939-1950.

The archive can be accessed at the João Paulo II University Library, by prior appointment. For more information contact biblioteca.lisboa@ucp.pt.
